Shoreline Erosion Hazards and Nature-Based Mitigation
Students will asses the risks of increased shoreline erosion on coastal communities and the nature-based mitigation techniques used. Risks analyzed can include those relating to homeowners who live on the coast, community structures such as roads, public parks, and cemeteries, and also the risk of restoration workers who put nature-based techniques into place to slow the rates of erosion. Our restoration team here at Helping Nature Heal Inc. works directly on eroding slopes throughout eastern Canada, working to reduce erosion and help people and communities safeguard their property.

The learners will conduct comprehensive market research to identify emerging trends in the eco-friendly and sustainable industry. They will analyze audience demographics to better understand the target market's preferences and behaviors. Additionally, the project will involve evaluating the competitive positioning of Helping Nature Heal Inc. in comparison to its key competitors. The goal is to provide a clear, data-driven picture of the market environment to support the company's growth and innovation strategies.
Shoreline Erosion Awareness Campaign Plan
Helping Nature Heal Inc. is a for-profit ecological restoration company that specializes in building, maintaining, and providing education on Living Shorelines. Our Shore Up program is a community workshop program to train and empower community members to care for their own ecosystems and work together. We would like to work with students to design a campaign that raises awareness and encourages changes in attitudes / behaviors. In collaboration with key contacts at our organization, students will design and carry out a campaign strategy around this topic. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: Familiarizing themselves with the social cause, our mission and goals. Identifying groups that the campaign will target. Identifying ideal outcomes and key performance indicators (KPIs). Identifying potential sponsors and partners who can support our campaign. Creating a promotion and marketing plan. Bonus steps in the process would also include: Assisting in the development of leaflets, posters, videos, and / or brochures.

Our company offers a community workshop program, but so far is only completing projects in Eastern Canada. We hope to revamp our marketing strategy to expand this project nationally. We want students to help us build a marketing plan to grow and engage our target market. Our company advertises products and services online. However, we currently rely on slow modes of communication with our customers. Users have requested the functionality to contact sellers directly via a real-time chat function. We would like to work with students to design a general chat interface. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: Conducting background research on our users and products. Producing a wireframe or mock-up of the resulting system’s user interface. Testing the design with users and making improvements. Integrate AI so chat function can operate on its own Integrate chat function into company website Bonus steps in the process would also include: Prototyping multiple possible chat function designs.
